1.
One of the most extraordinary things about history's most extraordinary musician is the fact that this man's music which exerts such a magnetic attraction for us today, and against which we tend to measure much of the achievement in the art of music, that this music had absolutely no effect on the musicians or the public of his own day. He was certainly misunderstood but not because he was ahead of his time, rather because according to the musical disposition of that day, he was generations behind it. Clear, symmetrical musical architecture, a continuous line of development, certainty of motion, something belonging to the moment. Essentially an isolated event related with other isolated events by the family ties of one key to another. With all its eternally undulating flow of harmonic motion, with all its vast linear complication, it seems to suggest somehow the suspended, perpetually transient unknown. We feel him struggling to strike beyond the realization of human potential. Because the fact remains that he was first and last an architect, a constructor of sound.

The air in our big cities is full of smoke The sky is everyone's sewer Which means air full of dirt and sky without sun for the people of the city Air pollution is a greater hazard to our health than most people realize Moving quietly from place to place No one is immune We have taken liberally of our earth's resources And we have scattered our waste products, often without wisdom or restraint Without consideration of the effects on the quality of our lives or the lives of our children And through all this we have said we are free man and free man have the right to use resources as they choose This. Is the Shadow. Of Progress. This planet is threatened with destruction and those who live in it with death. The heavens wreak, the waters below are foul, and we and the world which is our home, we are in a crisis of survival.

Watson Says 01:17
Watson says things have changed since he lived here as a boy, mostly for the worse. It wasn't quite as complicated, didn't seem to me as if it was a jungle as it does now, back in those days, way back when I was a little kid. We didn't have that type of question, we didn't have to worry about it, we didn't have any real large gang elements involved. Consequently people who aren't involved take a side, get caught in the middle. It is like a jungle. You don't come here and tell the kids that they're poor, you don't have to come here and tell them that they don't have any food to eat, that they don't have any clothes to wear to school, to church. You don't have to come here tell them that they don't have a home to go to. They know they don't. They know since the time they are able to walk and talk. And they see the dope addicts, and they see the gang elements, and they see the prostitutes on the streets and in the buildings. They see all this type of thing and this is their social atmosphere, this is something they grow up in, this is something they can't escape from: the ghetto.

Could you describe what happened on the morning of August 6th? I was in my room and suddenly I saw a light. Looking out of my window, I saw nothing besides this light. I heard a crash maybe ten seconds after seeing the light. Immediately I was covered with splinters and glass. Our house had been severely damaged by the blast of the explosion. About a kilometer away from the house I saw several peasant houses which were on fire. We saw a procession of people, many of them, most of them, were wounded. They came up to our house and we did what we could but... There was nobody to take charge. Neither myself nor anbody heard a single outburst of hate against the Americans in those terrible days.

Well...there they are: our new electronic media. You push a button and the world's yours. Everywhere now is our own neighborhood. But not only is the world getting smaller, it's become more available and more familiar to our minds and to our emotions. The world is now a global village. These new media of ours have made our world into a single unit. A global village. Yes, we're re-tribalizing. The world is now like a continually sounding tribal drum where everybody gets the message all the time. Boom-boom-boom go the drums. We are no longer so concerned with self definition, with finding our own individual way. We are more concerned with what the group knows, feeling as it does, act with it not apart from it. Involuntarily we are getting rid of individualism.
6.
Time. Have you ever stop to think how much you really have? Some of us put our time to good use. And some of us. Spend most of our time just moping. What might be some good uses of your time? Will you let time slip away from you?

What is your real name? Malcolm, Malcolm X. Who taught you please? You should ask who taught you. Who taught you to hate the texture of your hair? Who taught you to hate the color of your skin? Who taught you to hate the shape of your nose? And the shape of your lips? Who taught you to hate yourself from the top of your head to the soles of your feet? Who taught you to hate your own kind? Who taught you to hate the race you belong to, so much so that you don't want to be around each other? Hell, the white man makes the whiskey and then puts you in jail for getting drunk. We feel that the problem, number one, of the black man in America is beyond America's ability to solve. We believe that our problem is one not of a violation of civil rights but a violation of human rights. Not only are we denied the right to be a citizen in the United States, we are denied the right to be a human being.

America, I'm addressing you. America, I'm addressing you. America stop pushing, I know what I'm doing. America, this is quite serious. America, when will we end the human war? America, why are your libraries full of tears? Everyday someone goes on trial for murder. America, I've given you all and now I'm nothing. It occurs to me that I am America! I don't want to die young, I want to die old and unhappy. Your machinery is too much for me, I don't work for a living. When can I go into the supermarket and buy what I need with my good looks? Everybody's serious but me. I refuse to give up my obsession. I sit in my house for days on end without going out. I don't feel good, don't bother me. America, I can't stand my own mind. I am talking to myself again. Poor dead flower, when did you forget that you were a flower, when did you look at your skin and decide you were an impotent, dirty, old locomotive. The ghost of a locomotive. The specter and shade of a once powerful mad American locomotive. You were never no locomotive sunflower, you were sunflower. And you locomotive, you are a locomotive, forget me not!
10.
Come. Let's travel into the future. What. Will we see? Sunshine. Trees. Hills and valleys. Flowers and flowing streams. These eternal things are lovely and unchanging. This world of tomorrow is a world of beauty. Does it seem strange? Unbelievable? Men endlessly seeking something new. New things to do. And new ways to do them. New thinking. And new ways of living. A new world is constantly opening before us. A greater world, a better world. A world which always will grow. Forward. Always forward. The world we are now seeing is a vision. An artistic conception. Which may undergo many changes. As it develops into the great realities of tomorrow.
