Shine (for Miles)
01:06
|

It isn't the instrument that's being played that makes the difference but the man who plays it.
The leader of our next group has found himself establishing a very distinctive, original, personal sound and then hearing it come back from all of his admirers and being forced to extend his own creative boundaries once again to find something that is again distinctively his own.

Remember Yer Name
02:37
|
|||
Sometimes I can't remember yer name
Sometimes I just say hey
Let me do and call you whatever I want
Most people let me do whatever I want
Sometimes I can't forget a thing
I remember walks and songs that we'd sing
When I thought the cards were Rorschach tests
When I asked if I failed, you said I guess
And where do they go?
Where do they go?
Sometimes I wish I could forget my name
Forget the places that I been
Should I write a song for everything I've done
As a way to say I'm sorry to everyone
Where do they go?
Where do they go?

Railroad Blues

That was the Railroad Blues that the colored boy was playing when I walked past the barber shop door.
It was on a warm summer's day and he was laying up there bare footed.
And I said boy that's undoubtedly the lonesomest piece of music that I ever run onto in my life. Where in the world did you learn it?
He says I just lay here and listen to the railroad whistle. Whatever it say, I say too.

Into the Sea
02:26
|

When I was a young boy
I took a boat to sea
I lost my favorite hat there
It floated beyond me
And when I was a younger man
I went back to that sea
I saw a hat upon the water
Thought it was for me
Go back I did declare
But no hat was anywhere
And when I was an oil man
I bought up all that sea
I bought up all the land and water
Kept them all for me
And when I was older still
I died in that sea
I swam out to the middle
Let the waves wash over me
Now all I have are the memories
The hat on my head
Me on my momma's knee
I still remember
The boat, the waves of the water

This Old World
01:57
|
|||
My sister's and my brothers, my subject for this evening is: the world is in a-helluva fix.
We are living in perilous times.
The world is upside down.
We often talk about the high cost of living. Talk about a Tiffany diamond, talk about your automobiles.
But I tell you my brothers and my sisters, it's hard time that we are having in the world with millions out of work, with worldwide depression, unrest is begot. This ol world is in a helluva fix.
Do you hear me?
Now is the time.
You might say you're on your way, don't know where you're going.
We are living in times when the racketeer, and the bandy, and the bootlegger, and the false pretenders and the hypocrites in the amen corner have got this ol world in a helluva fix.
